Forgiveness

I recently finished the book "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. I really enjoyed this man's style of writing and the depth of the story. However, in it, there was one paragraph that leaped off the page and grabbed my attention. I don't need to say anything else about it...other than I think he's onto something here and he says it so eloquently...

"I slipped the picture back where I had found it. Then I realized something: That last thought had brought no sting with it. Closing Sohrab's door, I wondered if that was how forgiveness budded, not with the fanfare of epiphany, but with pain gathering its things, packing up, and slipping away unannounced in the middle of the night."

  • This is an interesting quote Sara...I think it has an air of truth, but with a twist. I'd say the pain of wrong that needs to be forgiven sort of fades with time and the pain is less and less until the sting simply isn't there any more...but to forgive...I don't think is ever this easy...I have found it to be more of an act of the will. I have found at times that the pain of a wrong done to me fades even if somehow I am able to hold a grudge against that person. I like the quote by Ghandi regarding forgiveness...

    Mahatma Gandhi
The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

I always enjoy your posts sister... keep it up.
