You Decide
This post is not for the weak of stomach. :) If you read yesterday's post...you will recognize the poor creature that Bekah is holding as "Stew". So last night at about 11:30, I told Bekah to go check the trap (I had been waiting all day for her to see it and she didn't!)...so she did and whereas I thought for sure there would be an outcry of joy, instead there was a moment of sadness as she realized what had happened with the trap. It killed him...in kind of harsh way. :) So, where as we are not animal rights wacko's or anything like that, what do you think about these traps? I mean, we both were glad that Stew was no longer a threat to us...but at the same time were sad because of the way he died.
So...is this kind of death just or unjust...let us know what you think. :)

Okay, okay - I don't relaly like the thought of HOW the thing died, but totally okay THAT he died! When we were first married, we thought we had uninvited guests...were we right! Vaughn set out traps (I wouldn't even touch one - yuck!) and while we would sit around in the evenings watching TV, WHACK! We would hear one of the traps let go...gotta tell ya' - I really liked the sound of that! (Isn't that rather sick? - no comments, please!!!) KATHY

I can't stand to see the mouse - in fact I'm VERY impressed that Bekah is holding the trap in those pictures - I could not do that. I would think that would be a quick thing with the snap trap as opposed to starving to death stuck to a glue trap?

Hmmmm... well, I've done worse. Until a few weeks ago, I slept in a nasty basement room in the (mansion) where I live/work as a nanny--for the past few years--and apparently was hosting a mouse for a while. the "pest control" people came and set out one of those "sticky" traps, with some poison near it, so the mouse was supposed to eat the poison and then walk onto the glue trap and get stuck, where he would "peacefully expire." not the case... he DID get stuck on there, but was very, very much alive when i found him there squeaking and carrying on at two in the morning. i was freaking out and didn't know what to do, so i just picked up the whole thing in a trash bag and put him in the dumpster in the garage. the next morning, i told the girls who i nanny for (10 year olds) about it, and they insisted on going to take a peek at him. they came back inside and informed me that he was alive. AHHHHHH!!!! i couldnt believe it, but it was true... and worse yet, he had gnawed himself mostly off of the trap, only a stringy part of his leg was left, and it was all bloody in his attempt to get loose from the glue. i was sick. i ended up drowning him in a bucket of water. i'm truly not a fan of killing animals-it was about being merciful...?

I don't know who Elly is, but after reading her tale (which will haunt me for quite awhile!) :-) I think you went the most humane route by finishing Stew off quickly. I am a firm believer that there are just times when you need a boy around to do the dirty work. Let me know if I need to loan out Micah for you!
